Accepting Nomads and Population Growth in Banished

If you have built a Town Hall in Banished, nomads can begin to arrive in your village, and you can choose to allow them to settle in your community. Nomads represent additional labor, which means you can assign them to underperforming production buildings. However, a sudden increase in population can also lead to several issues.

Housing, food, heating, tools, and clothing shortages are among the problems that can arise. Therefore, before accepting a group of nomads, it’s crucial to prepare especially for housing and food needs. When you build a house, a nuclear family will settle into it.

You will be notified of nomads arriving in your village with a blue icon in the top menu bar. When you see this icon, go to the Town Hall and click the Nomad option. Then, click the Accept button in the window that opens.

If the group of nomads is large, you’ll need to build many more houses. Spending vital resources like stone, wood, and iron on housing can disrupt your village’s overall operation. That’s why building a boarding house for the homeless is often a wiser option. This way, the needs of the new residents are temporarily met, and you can gradually settle them by building individual homes over time.

To build a temporary shelter for the homeless, go to the Homes and Housing menu (shortcut: F3). A boarding house can be built with 100 wood and 45 stone.
